Civil Process Division The Civil Process Division is responsible for the service of subpoenas and other court documents within Oxford County. Other court documents include: divorce, family matters, law suits, civil disputes, landlord-tenant notices, etc.


Service:

If you wish to have legal service of civil process, please forward it to our office by either of the following:


(1) Deliver it to our office in person at:

(Between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm – Monday through Friday)

Please include all of the following with your paperwork:

The original document, a copy for service, your telephone number, your return address, and deposit for service (see below). Please complete the SERVICE INFORMATION FORM (below) and include it with your paperwork. If you have a document from the court that allows for you to have civil process served at the court’s expense, please include a copy of that court document.

Please provide as much information as possible as to the location of the person to be served. This will keep costs down by eliminating unnecessary travel.


Deposits:


The deposit covers the initial cost of the service, mileage, and other fees of the paperwork being served. The balance accrued after paper service will need to be paid before the paperwork can be returned.


Our office accepts business checks, money orders or credit/debit card. (All returned checks are subject to a $25.00 return check fee.)

Any unused portion of your deposit (over $10.00) will be returned to you in a check. If you’re an individual with a service that exceeded your deposit, you will receive a call of the total amount due before we can return.


Attorney’s Offices:

     (Within the State of Maine): No deposit required.

     (Outside of the State of Maine): Call or email our office before sending paperwork.

Our civil deputies and office personnel cannot by law give out legal advice. They can only explain service procedures.

Diligent Service

In the event we are unable to make contact and serve the party, there will be a diligent service fee assessed.


Paper fee  - $40 (Except for Civil Order of Arrest - $60)

FICA - $3.06 (Except for Civil Order of Arrest - $4.59)

Processing Fee - $25

Postage Fee - $0.50 (fifty cents)
