DEPARTMENTS

ADMINISTRATION

Sheriff Wayne Gallant and Chief Deputy Dane Tripp are the officials responsible for each division that make up the Sheriff's organization in Oxford County.

PATROL

The Patrol Division consists of two Lieutenants, one that handles major criminal investigations, and the other handles property crimes investigations. Road Patrol consists of three Sergeants, three Corporal, six full time Deputies and three reserve Deputies, which provide coverage for all towns and unorganized townships within Oxford County. The Deputies respond to calls 365 days per year, 24 hours per day

JAIL

Corrections division has a Jail Administrator, Captain Ernest Martin, an assistant jail administrator /programs officer, Lieutenant Lauretta Sanborn, four Sergeants, eight full time Corrections Officers and four reserve Corrections Officers at present. The facility was opened in 1979, and has 27 beds.   Population of persons incarcerated fluctuate constantly, persons serving sentences can be sentenced to jail for a maximum of 364 days. Any sentence beyond that number of days is sentenced to a State facility. Prisoners are housed in the Oxford County Jail for both pre trial and sentenced stays. The Average daily population for 2006 was 44 prisoners per day.                            
The facility provides medical care on a weekly on call schedule, meals are prepared by the facility staff cooks. Costs per meal were calculated to around than $1.40 in 2006. Recreation, work details and programs, court appearances and visiting schedules are all governed by the policies and overseen by the corrections staff.   

One goal of Oxford County Jail is to release offenders back into the community better than when they arrived, it is hoped that the process of the judicial system enables the person to make better choices once back into the community, and hope someday to see  less repeat offenders.  

 

CIVIL

The Civil Division of Oxford County Sheriff's Office is made up of five members and is responsible for serving papers in the non criminal aspects of the judicial system. Courts, attorneys and citizens request service of many styles of civil paperwork served in hand by the civil process deputies.  In 2006  3,454 papers were filed in the Civil office for service during the year.

Oxford County Regional Communications Center

The Oxford County Regional Communications Center (RCC) is comprised of a Director of Communications, James P. Miclon, 13 full time and two part time Emergency Communications Specialists. The RCC is responsible for receiving and dispatching calls for service for all but four of the Law, Fire and Rescue Agencies in Oxford County. All 911 calls dialed from land lines in Oxford County are answered by the Oxford County RCC. In 2006 approximately 500,000 calls, both 911 and non-emergency calls were taken.

Judicial Security Division

The Judicial Security Division (Court Security) is made up of six sworn Deputies, Deputy Norman Clanton is the supervisor. Deputies E. Charles Martin, Constance Sorel, Duane Phelps, Harold Gillman and Steve Searcy make up the remainder of the Division.                         

The Judicial Security Division is responsible for court security in the Rumford and South Paris District Courts. On average, there are twenty-two to twenty-five court dates per month.  Some of these dates require multiple Officers. 


 

 

OTHER PROGRAMS

Linda Hooker, the Sheriff's Administrative assistant, is also the contact person for programs the Sheriff supports such as TRIAD and AARP.  Each July she has coordinated a senior citizen picnic at the Fryeburg Fair grounds , getting the older citizens together with law enforcement, she works on a regular basis with the Attorney General office as well as law enforcement advising them of scams against the elderly , keeping everyone updated on those who see the elderly as targets of crime.
